“Adapting Malaysia’s National Security Policy to Contemporary Threats”

The National Resilience College had the distinct honour of hosting Tan Sri Othman Hashim, former Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as an Eminent Speaker for a strategic session centred on Malaysia’s foreign policy and its evolving role in today’s complex global environment. The programme provided Course Members with valuable insights into diplomatic strategy, international engagement, and the challenges of navigating an increasingly multipolar world marked by geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, and shifting alliances. Drawing from his extensive experience, Tan Sri Othman highlighted the importance of strategic diplomacy, policy coherence, and adaptive leadership in safeguarding Malaysia’s national interests on the global stage. In the current era, where global developments are deeply interconnected and rapidly changing, the session was highly relevant as it underscored the critical role of foreign policy in national security and resilience. It reinforced the need for Malaysia to remain agile, outward-looking, and strategically engaged, while equipping Course Members with a deeper understanding of how diplomacy, international relations, and strategic foresight contribute to sustaining national stability and global relevance.
