Story of General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam
General Tan Sri Haji Mohd Nizam bin Haji Jaffar’s life embodies service, resilience, and sacrifice. Born in Johor Bahru in 1966, his military journey began with Cadet Intake 25 at the Royal Military College before advancing to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. From his early command as a platoon commander in the 19th Royal Malay Regiment (Mechanised) to serving as aide-de-camp to Malaysia’s top generals, his career reflects discipline and leadership.
His professional education and overseas missions — from Bangladesh and the US to Lebanon and France — shaped him into a global military leader. His tenure as the second Commandant of NRC was marked by innovation during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he strengthened academic programmes, embedded the Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society (WoGoS) approach, and expanded NRC’s partnerships both locally and internationally.
Elevated to Chief of Defence Force in January 2025, his command philosophy, Duty, Honour, Sacrifice, rests on four pillars: operational readiness, holistic human capital development, sustaining force welfare, and advancing defence diplomacy. His leadership has seen humanitarian missions, peace dialogues, and strengthened military ties across ASEAN and beyond.
Behind the uniform, he is a devoted husband to Puan Seri Risia Sheikh Ali Omar Bajarai and father to Sheikha Ajlaa Nizam, drawing strength from the values instilled by his beloved parents.
