Led by our Commandant, Major General Abdul Karim bin Ahmad, the National Resilience College successfully completed a week-long study visit to the Republic of Indonesia under the theme “Enhancing International Recognition through Strategic Collaboration.”

Throughout the visit, Course Members (CMs) and Faculty Members (FMs) engaged with key institutions that play a pivotal role in shaping regional cooperation and resilience:

Malaysian Embassy, Jakarta – Strengthening bilateral ties and understanding Malaysia’s role in fostering ASEAN cooperation.

Universitas Pertahanan Nasional Indonesia (UNHAN-RI) – Learning about Indonesia’s defence education and exchanging perspectives on strategic leadership.

🏛 ASEAN Secretariat – Gaining insight into ASEAN centrality, consensus-building, and collective leadership.

⚡ ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) – Exploring energy security, the ASEAN Power Grid, and sustainable transition initiatives.

⚔ MABES TNI & Lemhannas RI – Understanding Indonesia’s defence strategy, resilience philosophy, and leadership development.

📚 CSIS Indonesia – Although the planned session with CSIS was cancelled due to ongoing riots in Jakarta and security concerns, this highlighted the real-world unpredictabilities of diplomacy and the importance of resilience in strategic planning.

💡 Why this visit matters:

This academic field study provided Course Members with firsthand exposure to diplomacy, defence cooperation, and regional policymaking. It reinforced lessons on the elements of national power, ASEAN’s role in shaping Southeast Asia’s future, and the importance of Malaysia–Indonesia collaboration in advancing regional security and international recognition.

🌏 This study visit not only enhanced practitioner-level insights at the grand strategic level but also reinforced collaboration and engagement with key institutions, directly contributing to NRC’s mission of building resilience, strengthening national capacity, and upholding the principles of duty, honour, and sacrifice.
